The Set Up :
Amber is smart, insecure, sixteen and a bit of a social misfit. She'd rather interact online, staying away from her weirdly beautiful and aloof parents and their friends. Then one day Amber discovers that everything she believed to be true is a lie, heralding the beginning of the ultimate road trip on a highway to hell and back...
I did like this overall. It's full of Landy trademarks like razor sharp dialogue, dark humour, snappy come-backs and weird magic. And there are demons, proper demons too. Where is fell down for me was in comparison to Skulduggery Pleasant. It was very similar in a lot of ways when I was hoping for something new. There was also a repetitiveness to it. There really didn't need to be so many side trips as there were - the book could have been shorter and it would have had a lot more impact. I like the characters but again they were very similar to those in the Skulduggery books and once you've noticed that it's hard to read them as different characters. I will still read the next book because even if it's more of the same it's still very enjoyable. The car was epically cool.
